Friday, 22/01/2021 at FONGTIL’s office , the intervention of Director Vocational Technic School-ESTV Pesca / Fishing Post Administrative of Atauro Mr. Afonso Soares said that ESTV Pesca / Fishing Atauro first time establish in 2016, the school only got a few books and computer but in 2016 and above, until now the Goverment and the Ministry of Education has not done anything to the school. also he said that the government does not provide any budget and does not monitor the school.
ESTV Pesca / Fishing Atauro is unique but the government is weak in the capacity to bring the quality of the school from pratical tools and human resource such as the teacher’s. We only have one Productive teacher and the other teachers are no longer productive, he said that ESTV Pesca / Fishing Atauro has two departments which are the Pesca / Fishing department and the Agua Culture / Water Culture department.At Pesca / Fishing department we need a boat for the student to fishing practice, during all of this time there were no boat so the student only learned the lesson but no pratical. and he said that actually there was a boat but the boat was with a passenger model and we did not use it. So we had to send it back to Dili.
In Agua Culture / Water Culture department is more focused on cultivating fish but there are no facilities to support this school, therefore the parents of all students donate some funds to buy fish farming tarpaulin from Indonesia – Kupang. Every year students do an internship at Ermera- Gleno, at the fish farming section. ( Round – trip money $35 per student contribution).
There are also the students from others District studying at the ESTV Pesca / Fishing Atauro , therefore the Director recomends the Government and the Ministry of Education to allocate funds to these school to create quality and continuously monitoring the progress and the problems in this school.
The issue that has been a concern so far is the status of the land, the school area is getting threats because of its still in aviation area, so if the aviation area is repaired then the school will be in trouble.
